Every year since 1999, the Canadian Pacific Railways Holiday Train makes the journey along the main line from November to December. The train is a rolling stage show with musicians and comedians and other acts from year to year who perform at scheduled stops along the route. The train also picks up food donations for community food banks and helps promote the CPR and some of the railroad's customers. The Holiday Train mission has collected 506 tons of food for North American food banks since it started, and raised in excess of $2.3 million CAD. Each community keeps donations that are collected in their community. If you get a chance to see the Canadian Pacific Railways Holiday Train, it is very colorful and exciting to watch fly by even if you aren't at a scheduled stop on the CPR mainline. The shows at the scheduled CPR Holiday Train stops always draw a large crowd when the weather permits. Last year it was bitterly cold and many shows were cut short. It was even too cold for Santa to ride on the observation platform between shows last year. Here's a short clip taken by Chuck Trabert on December 9, 2006 in Elm Grove, Wisconsin. Santa can be seen on the observation platform at the end of the train although the light is very dim and Santa is hard to see. But he's there! (That's why "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" was chosen as the background music.) Happy holidays from Pauline and Chuck Trabert at RailfanInfo! Enjoy Canadian Pacific Railways Holiday Train.
